The great thing about the airports is that they are located within easy travelling distance of all the islands major resorts.
As well as over 1,000 km of coastline to enjoy visitors have plenty of other places that they can explore and visit during their stay on the island. This island is one of the most mountainous of all the islands to be found in the Mediterranean.
At the western end of the island you will find White Mountain (Lefka Ori) which stands at 2,453m tall, then in the center is Mount Idi (Psiloritis) which stands at a height of 2,456m (and is the tallest). Then on the eastern end of the island is Mount Dikti which stands just 2,148m tall. But along with these mountains you will find that Cretan Mountains that run from one end of the island to the other. It is these which help to make the island seem far larger than it really is.
For those who would like to get away from the crowded beaches then take a trip to Lake Kournas which although small is extremely beautiful. Here you can wander around and if you want stop at one of the many taverns which are located on the lakes shores.
Most people will visit Crete during the height of the summer season and when the heat is at its hottest. Throughout the months of July and August the temperatures during the day very rarely go below 100 degrees Fahrenheit (40 degrees Centigrade). Plus you will need to get to the beaches early if you want to make sure you have space to lie down and relax.
For those who want to avoid all this hassle then a great time to visit Crete is in October when the weather is still pretty good. There is still plenty of sunshine to be had at this time of year, plus when it comes to the temperatures they are at a level you will find much more comfortable.
But as well as spending time relaxing on Crete’s beaches there are plenty of historical sites that one can visit as well.
