The Best Six Western Us Travel Tips
Although many people don’t like to travel far for vacation, have you considered visiting the Western United States this year? The majority of Americans prefer to travel within the US, so a trip to the West is an ideal situation. There are a multitude of fantastic places there, just waiting for you to discover them.
Tip number one: Washington state is a fantastic tourist area. Its natural and outdoor sights rival the best in the world, and can be surprisingly exotic to Americans from other parts of the country. Discover the otherworldly beauty of Rattlesnake Mountain or Cape Alava, just two among the hundreds of picturesque spots in the state. Hiking or bicycle trails will take you to many of them if you enjoy outdoor activities, but there are also tours and cruises for the less athletic. If you’re more of a big city person, Seattle is a vibrant and interesting place to spend a couple of days of your holiday.
Vacation hint number two: Don’t think that there’s nothing in Nevada except casinos. World-class skiing is available in Lake Tahoe, along with golfing, hiking, and snowmobiling. For those with dreams of riding the range, a visit to the cowboys and ranchers in the northern part of the state can be quite exhilarating. A trip farther south will bring you to the desert and former Pony Express country. You can drive along the same route that these early mail carriers took while imagining what it would be like.
Tip number three: Water sports in Arizona. The deserts state isn’t immediately associated with water and boating, but it does have lakes, and some of them are a paradise for boating and water activities. The best one might just be Lake Pleasant, just thirty miles north of Phoenix. It offers excellent water skiing, sailing, jet skiing and fishing. Fifty miles of shoreline and crystal clear water makes it a great stop on your holiday.
Tip number four: Culture in Salt Lake City. Who would have thought it? The Utah capital has a ballet company, Ballet West, an opera company, a symphony orchestra and several excellent theaters. Outside of these classical art and culture attraction, Salt Lake City offers interesting local color. The Mormon capital is genuinely different, a unique character among US cities. It is very American, but at the same time feels foreign to visitors from other areas.
Tip number five: Yosemite. Sure, we all know it is there, but have you actually been? This part of California is very different from the rest of the sunny, crowded state. Giant redwoods and mountain views offer a soul-soothing experience. If you come from the south, driving the Pacific Coast Highway is an experience that shouldn’t be missed. Discover Monterey with its Cannery Row, the two centuries old Carmel Mission, and perhaps see the Lone Cyprus overlooking the sea.
Tip number six: A long weekend in Portland, Oregon. The Portland Metropolitan area is a big city not quite like other big cities. With its vibrant arts community, multitude of parks and green spaces, excellent public transportation and generally liveable atmosphere, Portland is pleasant and friendly as well as urban and exciting.
It doesn’t matter what type of vacation you’re looking for, the Western United States has what you need. These ideas will get you started, but don’t limit yourself. Go exploring and find your own special paradise. Be safe, and have a great vacation!
